Annual Philanthropic Year

What is the Philanthropic Year?

Each year, RS offers an annual series of events and programs designed to help support our congregation. This year, Broad Perspectives forms the foundation of this programming.

What is a Patron?

Patrons actively support the philanthropic year by making a gift to RS at one of our Patron gift contribution levels. All of our patrons receive year-long access to Broad Perspectives events, with the opportunity to attend receptions preceding each event. In addition, with permission, each of our patrons are recognized for their generous contributions in print and digital Broad Perspectives publications.

How do I learn more?

For more information on becoming a patron, contact Noah Levine, Philanthropy Manager at 267-930-7291 or nlevine@rodephshalom.org.

This Year: “Broad Perspectives”

This new Philadelphia Jewish speakers series, developed in partnership with the Feinstein Center for American Jewish History at Temple University, hosts multiple conversations at RS with intellectuals, writers, experts, and activists, as well as cultural programs. With this series, our leg of Broad Street will be known for meaningful ideas and “Broad Perspectives” that inspire our spiritual life paths.

Event Highlights

Saturday, September 9, 2023: Michael Solomonov and Adeena Sussman: Exploring the Foods of Her Shabbat & Holiday Table

Michael Solomonov, renowned chef, and Adeena Sussman, New York Times bestselling author, returned in-person to Rodeph Shalom for a conversation about Sussman’s new cookbook, Shabbat: Recipes and Rituals from My Table to Yours. This moment to connect with our own food and family inspired memories came just before our Selichot observance – an introspective service when we change the Torah covers to the traditional white as we prepare for the High Holy Days.

Thursday, April 4, 2024: “The College Campus & Free Speech” with Dr. Sigal Ben-Porath; Moderated by Dr. Lila Corwin Berman

Joined by Dr. Lila Corwin Berman, Director of the Feinstein Center for American Jewish History at Temple University, Dr. Sigal Ben-Porath, author of Cancel Wars, came to RS to discuss a very timely topic – free speech on the college campus. With reports of antisemitism and Islamophobia on the rise, we struggled with the questions – how did the present moment and state of our world challenge or affirm Dr. Ben-Porath’s vision? And how can universities better equip themselves, their students, their faculty, and the public to appreciate free expression in an embattled world?
