DESCRIPTION:On Shavuot\, Thursday\, May 21\, when it is traditional to study into the wee hours\, we will do it RS style\, with a three-part program. \nRegister for classes here. \n5:30 to 6:60 PM\nJewish Wine and Cheese-Making: What Does the Inquisition Have to Do with It?\nLearn about the history and tradition of Jewish wine and cheese-making\, while sampling curated wines and cheeses for your pleasure with Bill Uffner\, Rabbi Bill Kuhn\, Yoav Perry\, and Helene Jawhara Piner. \n6:40 to 7:30 PM\nA Stroll through Jewish Musical Genres over the Decades\nWhile you are noshing on delicious wine and cheese\, enjoy the music of Jon Broder\, Louis Bernstein\, Melissa Broder\, and Barbara Lewandowski\, as they take us through a Jewish musical revue. \n7:30 to 8:30 PM\nBook Talk “Promised Lands\,” Zionism in Interwar Palestine and America with Sharon Musher\nIn 1922\, Rabbi Mordecai Kaplan\, the founder of Reconstructionist Judaism\, first initiated the Bat Mitzvah as a rite-of-passage for Jewish girls. Characterized as a lifelong supporter of women’s rights\, Kaplan’s family\, including his wife and four daughters\, played a role in shaping his ideas about women\, culture\, and Zionism. This was especially of his second daughter\, Hadassah Kaplan\, who joined a small but influential cohort of American Jewish women who studied\, worked and volunteered in British Mandate Palestine. Promised Lands draws on a rich personal archive of diary entries\, photographs\, and letters\, to follow Hadassah’s journey to Palestine and illustrate how travel shaped a cohort of American Jewish women who went on to shape American Jewry.

DESCRIPTION:The cornerstone of our learning is our Saturday morning Torah Study. We discuss the weekly Torah portion and have a lively and spirited conversation as we relate this ancient text to our daily lives. \nNo special training or prerequisite courses are necessary for you to attend. Neither is there an entrance requirement for the understanding of Torah. When we come to it in study\, there are no barriers to keep us distant from our heritage. \nTo access the weekly portion digitally visit: https://www.hebcal.com/sedrot or to purchase a hard copy of the plaut Torah commentary or women’s commentary visit  https://www.ccarpress.org/shopping_product_list.asp \nJoin Zoom Meeting
