ReadRS: Sons & Daughters Part Two
The last book by the last great Yiddish writer of the 20th century. It was published serially in Yiddish newspapers in New York in the 1960s. The manuscript was thought lost until it was recently discovered among Grade’s widow’s papers by YIVO (The Institute for Jewish Research), which saw to its translation and publication. Called both “melancholy” and “hilarious” by the New York Times, it provides a moving depiction of the world that the Holocaust eviscerated. The book was written in pieces and there is no reason it can’t be read that way too.
