Israel-Palestine Discussion Group

Religiously orthodox, politically radical, CUNY journalism professor and commentator Peter Beinart has written a short book that tells a bracing story. Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza: A Reckoning describes Beinart’s journey from a mild critic of Israel for its failure to live up to the ideals of liberal Zionism to a man who is unsure whether anyone will shake his hand when he enters his synagogue on Shabbat.

In a discussion led by Howard Green, a member of our steering committee, we will talk about Beinart’s warning that the Jewish state has taken an unnecessarily brutal and self-destructive turn, among other issues. We will also show an excerpt from Beinart’s late July appearance on The Daily Show.
