One of the great narratives of the formation of Israel is that after a thousand years of often peaceful coexistence, Jews were expelled from every Middle Eastern country after the formation of Israel. Is this narrative true or partly true? In a series of interviews and books, historian Professor Avi Shlaim discusses the Iraqi experience, and the explosion of bombs in Baghdad and Cairo to propel Jewish migration to the new state of Israel.
