Dear Rodeph Shalom Community,
As we prepare to gather for the High Holy Days, our top priorities are ensuring our synagogue is spiritually uplifting, warm, and safe for all that gather at RS.
To ensure smooth entry, we are implementing an updated entry protocol at our Green Street entrance. This year, we are utilizing the advanced screening system alongside our trusted security personnel and the Philadelphia Police Department.
The advanced system is a 100% passive detection system. Unlike traditional metal detectors, it does not emit any radiation or energy fields. Because it is completely passive, it is entirely safe for individuals with pacemakers, medical implants, and pregnant individuals.
To help us minimize wait times outside, please review our new entry steps:
- Arrive 20 minutes before services: Screenings take place entirely outdoors before entering.
- Bag Check: Security will be searching all handbags, backpacks and tallis bags. If you are carrying one of these with you, please be prepared for security to look inside your bag before walking through our detection system.
- Personal Belongings: Security personnel will never directly touch your personal items including your Tallit (prayer shawl) or Machzor (prayer book). If these items obscure the bag, the guard may ask you to shift them yourself.
- Scanning Protocol: Before walking through the detection system, you will be asked to empty pockets of cell phones, keys and wallets and to remove smart watches/fitness trackers, magnetic name tags, etc. These items will all be put into a basket on the table located next to the detection system.
- Scanning Process: You will walk past the screening pole at a normal pace and gather your belonging after passing through the detection system.
- Additional Scanning: If you set-off any alerts when passing through the detection system, security may ask you to step to the side so that can scan you manually using a security wand.
Thank you for your cooperation and partnership in keeping Rodeph Shalom safe.
