Hebrew Education

At Berkman Mercaz Limud, we follow the #OnwardHebrew approach to Hebrew learning:  students listen to Hebrew (in prayer services, in Hebrew Through Movement classes, and with teachers using basic Hebrew words during classes) to become comfortable with the sounds and vocabulary of the language, before we introduce reading the alef-bet.  Hebrew reading instruction does not take place on Sunday mornings.  Instead, students choose one of three Hebrew reading options, which are required for 5th and 6th graders, and also open to students in 1st-4th grades:  in-person Midweek Hebrew on Wednesday afternoons, online Midweek Hebrew on Tuesday afternoons, or Hebrew chevruta — small group (2-3 students) on Zoom with a teacher at a day and time that works for the student’s schedule.
