Only a look, a Word Today or Any Day: Mother

We will gather to celebrate New Moon Sh’vat on January 29, 6:45 p.m. at the home of Julia Engel. Led by Ellen Poster & Julia Engel. RSVP to Julia Engel.

A very special evening devoted to Our Mothers.  There will be a thoughtful discussion around Hannah Szenes’ life and legacy, with a special look at her poetry and devotion to her mother.

In preparation please watch the short film: Blessed is the Match prior to our discussion.  It’s easily brought up on any Smart TV or can be downloaded using the TUBI app to watch on your phone.

Hannah Szenes (1921 –1944) was a poet and a Special Operations Executive in WWII.  Szenes was arrested at the Hungarian border, then imprisoned and tortured, but refused to reveal details of her mission. She was eventually tried and executed by firing squad.  She is regarded as a national heroine in Israel, where her poetry is widely known; and the headquarters of the Zionist youth movements Israel Hatzeira, a kibbutz, and several streets are named for her.
