Event details

  • Wednesday | September 9, 2020
  • 7:30 pm

The Federalist Papers Study Group will be hosting a zoom discussion on Wednesday, September 9, at 7:30 p.m.

Our special guest presenter will be Philadelphia area native, Jason Harrow, Esquire, who argued Colorado v. Baca before the United States Supreme Court this last term.  Baca, and the companion case of Chiafalo v. Washington, dealt with the issue of “faithless electors” in the Electoral College who refused to vote for the presidential candidate who they supported on the ballot.

The Supreme Court’s unanimously held that a State may penalize an elector for breaking his pledge and voting for someone other than the presidential candidate who won his State’s popular vote.  The Court’s opinion reached back to Alexander Hamilton’s Federalist No. 68.  We will examine how the Federalist Papers speak to us today as we approach the 2020 presidential election.  All are welcome to join us for a timely and informative session.
