Sunday Seminar: The Book of Esther: Piety or Parody with Rabbi Richard Hirsh

Event details

  • Sunday | March 8, 2020
  • 10:15 am

The Book of Esther is part comedy, part drama, part parody…and unique in containing no mention of God. But in an alternate version that did not make it into our Bible, God has a prominent place. In this two-part conversation, we will compare and contrast the different versions of Esther (all texts are in English) looking at how a common story can be shaped in different ways to convey differing messages and meanings.
